Create a course
HowToo’s course feature allows you to combine multiple lessons, videos and resources into one course and publish it to your Learning Academy.
- On the left-hand side bar, go to 'Courses'.
- Select '+ New course'.
- Provide the course title. This will then show up under the 'Details' tab.
- Provide the course description under the same tab.
⭐ Tips:
- You can upload a video trailer, which will appear in the learner view of the course. You have the option to add captions to the video.
- You can also upload a course thumbnail image, which will be displayed on the course card and in the course overlay.
Add lessons to a course
- From the 'Course' window, go to the 'Lessons' tab.
- Select lessons from the dropdown and add them to your course. You can include one or multiple lessons.
❗️ Note: Only published lessons can be added to a course. If a lesson is not published, it will not appear in the selection list.
Add resources
Resources are typically used for:
- Toolkits
- Help documents
- Reference materials
To include supporting materials:
- From the 'Course' window, go to the 'Resources' tab.
- To add link to a resource material, select 'Add URL'.
- To upload documents such as PDFs, Word files, or other reference materials, select 'Upload resources'.
These resources will appear in the course overlay for learners to access.
Set completion parameters
To define how a course is marked as complete:
- From the 'Course' window, go to the 'Completion' tab.
- Select how many lessons must be completed for the course to be considered complete.
Set course re-allocation
Course reallocation allows you to automatically assign a course again after a period of time or on a fixed date.
Re-allocate after completion
Select the option to reallocate the course after a set number of years following completion.
For example, if a learner completes the course today, the course will be automatically reassigned after one year.
When choosing this option, the learner’s progress will reset to not started and they will need to complete the course again. This is commonly used for compliance training.
To do this:
- From the 'Course' window, go to the 'Completion' tab.
- Go to the 'Course reallocation' section, then tick 'Auto re-allocate this course'.
- You can then set how many years or months this course gets re-allocated after completion.
Re-allocate on a fixed date
You can also set a specific date for reallocation.
To do this:
- From the 'Course' window, go to the 'Completion' tab.
- Go to the 'Course reallocation' section, then tick 'Auto re-allocate this course'.
- Select 'On a fixed date'.
- Use the calendar to set the re-allocation date.
When choosing this option, the course is reassigned to learners on the set date regardless of their progress or completion status.
Notify learners
You can choose to notify learners by email when the course is reallocated.
To do this:
- From the 'Course' window, go to the 'Completion' tab.
- Go to the 'Course reallocation' section, then tick 'Auto re-allocate this course'.
- Tick 'Notify learners via email on re-allocation'.
When enabled, learners will receive an email informing them that the course has been assigned again.
