Rearrange blocks

Rearrange is a question block that lets your learners organize or rank items into the correct order, helping reinforce logical thinking and sequencing skills.

You can also use rearrange blocks in formal assessment sections to evaluate learner progress.

This guide shows you how to create and use rearrange questions to test understanding.

Create a rearrange block

1. Navigate to the storyboard view of your lesson.
2. Select 'Add new block'
3. Select the 'Question' drop-down in the left-hand sidebar.
4. Select 'Rearrange'. The library will display available block layouts that include rearrange questions. 
5. Select 'Preview' to view the block layout without creating it.
6. Select 'Choose block' to finalize your choice.

Add text to a rearrange question

1. Navigate to the editor view of your rearrange block.
2. Select the rearrange section of the block.
3. Select the answers or images directly to edit them.

Add more rearrange items to a question

1. Navigate to the editor view of your rearrange block.
2. Select the rearrange section of the block.
3. In the left-hand sidebar, roll your mouse over over the existing rearrange answers.
4. Select one of the blue '+' buttons.

Assign correct answer arrangement

1. Navigate to the editor view of your rearrange block.
2. Select the rearrange section of the block.
3. In the left-hand sidebar, select one answer at a time.
4. Drag each answer up or down the sidebar to rearrange it into the correct order and drop it into place.

Edit feedback

1. Navigate to the editor view of your rearrange block.
2. Select the rearrange section of the block.
3. In the left-hand sidebar, select the 'Feedback' drop-down to view the feedback panels.
4. Select the text in the feedback panels to edit the feedback messages.
5. In the left-hand sidebar, toggle between 'Correct' and 'Incorrect' to view and edit each message.

 ❗️ Note:  You can only record a single message to be delivered to all incorrect responses. Variations of feedback responses for different submitted answers cannot be recorded.  Check out our tip on how to write effective feedback.

Randomize rearrange items order

1. Navigate to the editor view of your rearrange block.
2. Select the rearrange section of the block.
3. In the left-hand sidebar, toggle 'Randomize options' to 'On'.

 ❗️ Note: 'Randomize options' is set to 'On' by default. Switching it off will cause the answer options to appear to the learner in the correct order when they view the block.

Delete or duplicate rearrange items

1. Navigate to the editor view of your rearrange block.
2. Select the rearrange section of the block.
3. In the left-hand sidebar, select the three vertical dots button next to the answer you wish to delete or duplicate.
4. Select 'Delete' or 'Duplicate' from the drop-down.
