Editing blocks

Editing your blocks a the key component to creating your courses.

⭐️ Tip: To edit your blocks, you will need to be in the editor view of your lesson. Open the storyboard view of your lessons, then roll your mouse over the block you wish to edit and select Edit to enter the editor view.

To add text to a block:

1. Select a block type containing text.
2. Select the relevant body of text.
3. Add and edit the text.
4. If available, you can use the rich text option bar above the body to apply different formats.

To add an image to a block:

1. Select a block type containing audio.
2. Select the image section in the block. New blocks will automatically include a placeholder image in the space.
3. Select Browse media library from the left-hand sidebar.
4. Select an image from your image library or the HowToo library.
5. Select Use selected media.

To add audio to a block:

1. Select a block type containing audio.
2. Select the audio bar in the block.
3. Select Browse media library from the left-hand sidebar.
4. Select an audio file from your library or the HowToo library.
5. Select Use selected media.

To add a video to a block:

1. Select a block type containing video.
2. Select the video in the block. New blocks will automatically include a placeholder video in the space.
3. Select Browse media library from the left-hand sidebar.
4. Select a video file from your library or the HowToo library.
5. Select Use selected media.

Alternatively, to embed a video in a block:

1. Select the video section of the block.
2. In the left-hand sidebar, switch the toggle from File to URL.
3. Enter the URL of the video you wish to embed in the text entry field below.
4. Click away to instantly save your changes.

Warning! If the video at the URL destination is changed or removed, this may impact the performance of your embedded video in your lesson.

To add an audio overlay:

You can add an additional audio overlay to any kind of block, with an accompanying transcript. This feature is different to the audio bars included in some multimedia blocks.

Note: even if you have selected Restricted Navigation for your lesson, users will NOT be required to listen to this audio piece. Therefore, avoid using this feature for critical learning content.

1. Select the Audio drop-down from the left-hand menu.
2. Use the Browse Media Library or Upload file here buttons to select or upload your desired audio piece.
3. Use the text editor in the left-hand sidebar to add a transcript of the audio piece.

To create a URL:

1. Select the relevant text box, and then use your cursor to highlight the text you wish to turn into a hyperlink.
2. Select the link icon from the rich formatting options bar above the text section.
3. Enter the URL into the text entry box.
4. Select Apply, OR press Enter or Return on your keyboard to save the URL.

To remove a URL:

1. Select the relevant text box, and then use your cursor to highlight the URL.
2. Select the crossed T icon from the rich formatting options bar above the text section.
3. This will clear all formatting from the highlighted text, including URLs.

To change the background of a block:

1. Select the Background drop-down menu in the left-hand sidebar.
2. To add an image to your background, select Browse media library or Upload file here.
3. To make the background a solid colour, select the coloured circle to the right of the title Colour. Then use the colour field to select a colour.
4. To change the position of the background colour or image, select the Background position drop-down to position the image on the left, right or across the entire screen.
5. To apply the same background to every block, select Lesson (All Blocks) from the top toggle. Select Block (This block only) unapply the background from other blocks.

 

To upload resources:

1. Navigate to the storyboard view of your lesson: 
2. Select Settings in the top right-hand corner of the view
3. Select the Resources tab.
4. Select Add URL to add a weblink, or Upload file here to upload a wide range of text, image, audio and video files, including:

• .txt
• .pdf
• .png
• .jpeg
• .svg
• .mp3
• .mp4
• .mov
